Demonstrating For Neutrality Allowance Is A Disgrace To The Civil Service- Lawyer Appiah-Kubi

The Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem, Lawyer Andy Appiah Kubi, has said that Civil And Local Government Staff Association (CLOGSAC) members are disgracing themselves  by demonstrating.

Speaking on the CLOGSAC strike he said that “staying neutral is a requirement for working in the public sector. They agreed to remain neutral and now they want to be given allowance for being objective’’,

He added that before people are hired in the public sector, the civil service regulations act demand that they go through thorough screening and examination to ensure they remain impartial in their operations.

“A lot of  money has gone into the free SHS policy, notwithstanding the current economic status, the government is still running social policies. They should not demand money at this critical time”, he indicated

Members of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG)  embarked on a nationwide strike on 21st April, 2022 over unpaid allowances. The workers were demanding the payment of “neutrality allowance,” which is pegged at 20% of their base salary, and is said to be part of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) entered into with government on January 20, 2022.

Government said the allowance is to encourage the civil service workers to remain apolitical, but it is not yet firmed up as planned, particularly on the nomenclature which raises concerns among some Ghanaians.
