‘Don’t Compare Me To Daddy Lumba; It’s Very Disrespectful’ – Shatta Wale Warns Netizens

Dancehall musician Shatta Wale has criticised netizens for comparing him to Highlife legend Daddy Lumba.

Recently, some online discussions have drawn parallels between Shatta Wale and Daddy Lumba, despite their different genres and eras of dominance.

This comparison has sparked a heated debate about music supremacy between the two musicians.

Daddy Lumba, a pioneering figure in highlife music, significantly influenced the Ghanaian music scene from the early 1990s through the 2000s with his distinctive vocals, massive hits, and timeless songs.

Shatta Wale on the other hand, who began his career as ‘Bandana’ before rebranding, has become a prominent figure in contemporary Ghanaian music since the early 2000s.

As discussions about Shatta Wale’s prominence escalated online, it led to comparisons with legends such as, Daddy Lumba.

But Shatta Wale finds this comparison disrespectful and believes it undermines the legacy of Daddy Lumba, who paved the way for contemporary artistes like himself.

In a post on X, Shatta Wale expressed his displeasure: “It is very disrespectful to compare me to the legend Daddy Lumba. Everyone should stop that because the man in question paved way for your favs and myself,” he wrote on X

He accused those making the comparisons of trying to tarnish his image and create discord with the highlife legends.

“This is what my opponents do to just tarnish my image in public …They want to compare me to Lumba so that the oldies will hate me and say I don’t respect,” he stated.

Shatta Wale continued, “Why don’t you compare me to your so-called decorated Sarkodie and Stonebwoy? You know it would be a disgrace for them, so you chose this path to create more haters for me right?. Time will tell. Man will learn. God is watching you all.”
