A former Member of Parliament (MP) for Adenta and currently a communications director for the Alan Kyeremanten campaign, Yaw Buaben Asamoa has advised President Akufo-Addo not to do unto Alan Kyeremanten what he despised about former President Kufuor.
Mr. Asamoa asserted that Alan’s camp has picked intelligence that the government is supporting a candidate to contest Alan in the flagbearership race for the NPP.
According to him, Alan Kyerematen forfeited his bid to contest, just to pave way for President Akufo-Addo to lead the party since 2008 and therefore this is the right time for him to lead the party in the run up to elections 2024.
“We have heard that the government is solidly behind one particular candidate and sponsoring him in the contest. But we expect that just as Alan stepped aside for Akufo-Addo to lead the party for internal cohesion, he would do same for him now”, he said on Wontumi TV.
He stressed that even President Akufo-Addo had admitted and applauded Alan Kyeremanten for paving way for him and as such, once he’s done with his tenure, Alan is expected to take over from him.
However, Yaw Buaben Asamoah said President Akufo-Addo is failing to fulfil the promise he made to Alan Kyeremanteng, after sacrificing for him in 2008.
He questioned why President Akufo-Addo will repeat the same thing he complained bitterly about former President Kufuor before he was made flagbearer in 2008, to Alan Kyerematen.
“You have contested as flagbearer and eventually you are President and as you retire…the accusation you made about Kufuor not treating you fairly- we don’t know the veracity of it…we were all in the party and defended you saying that the government of Kufuor can’t dictate to the party and we expected him to leave with his vice President for another group to take over and therefore we expect you to do same as your tenure comes an end..Its the norm of the party”, he concluded.
