The Chairman for the external branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in South Korea, Richard Zinleri, has jumped into the defense of the Vice President of Ghana, H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia over his comment of choosing a single Ghana card over 1000 interchanges.
According to him, the Vice President’s comments is a modern vision and it takes people who really appreciate modern trends which has developed many countries to understand him.
In an interview with Kwaku Dawuro on Movement In The Morning Show, Chairman Zinleri said “this could make it for the country to have credible data for planning, revenue mobilization and effective resource allocation- it equally helps mitigate identity fraud and will improve financial services and digital commerce. When crimes are committed, fingerprints of suspects can be matched with database to identify suspects”.
He explained that “the narrative is same in South Korea. Everything has been linked to our card, we are in cashless system now in the country. For every digital transaction we make 10% of it is paid to the government as revenue which we term as the tax bill, which translate into developmental projects”.
“This also helps seal all revenue leakages and that helps bring much development which improves the socio-economic life of the citizenry. So all that the Vice President meant was that if we lay that foundation, it will generate enough revenue to the country and this is what is happening in many developed countries which we in turn love to watch”, he added.
He advised all to embrace this digitization agenda as it will result in massive cost savings by centralizing citizenry identity data and mitigate the data duplication; as millions in cost savings can then be used to fund infrastructure or channeled into other development efforts.
