Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia has today May 30, 2023, picked his nomination forms at the party headquarters to contest in the upcoming Presidential race of the NPP.
Dr. Bawumia’s decision to pick up nomination forms is seen as a significant move, as he is widely considered to be one of the frontrunners in the race.
The flagbearer nomination forms were picked through his campaign team members, Sammi Awuku and Fred Oware and was presented to him at the Jubilee house.
This comes after a group calling itself, “Bawumia fun club” had earlier attempted to pick the presidential nomination forms on behalf of Dr. Bawumia, but national executives of the party rejected it.
The party said it had no authorization from the campaign team of the vice president to receive the endorsement.
In a short ceremony to present the documents to the Vice President at his office shortly after picking it up, former Chief Executive Officer of the Bui Power Authority, Fred Oware who was accompanied by the Director-General of the National Lottery Authority, Sammi Awuku among others, told the Vice President that “We went through the process, and we have finished the assignment you gave us. All the information you need is available and on behalf of the delegation that you sent, I wish to formally present the document to you”.
Meanwhile, Mr. Sammi Awuku told journalists at the party headquarters that Dr. Bawumia will be ready to communicate with the media after filing the form.
On May 3, 2023, the Vice President declared his intention to lead the NPP in the 2024 general election.
The Vice-President told the Majority Caucus in Parliament last Tuesday of his intention to contest the presidential primary slated for November 4, this year.
This disclosure to the Majority Caucus in Parliament was reiterated at an informal meeting with NPP supporters in Hohoe over the weekend.
