Former MP for Bantama, Dr. Henry Kwabena Kokofu, has praised the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for his support in providing accommodation and skills training for women from rural communities who travel to Accra in search of better opportunities.
Specifically, he highlighted the Kayayei Empowerment Programme and the newly training Centres, which aims to provide a safe and supportive environment for these women, known as “kayayei”, to learn new skills and improve their socio-economic lives.
Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo show, Dr. Kokofu expressed his amazement at the center’s facilities and emphasized the importance of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in addressing the country’s unemployment crisis.
Noting that the training centres have the potential to solve unemployment and boost the confidence of Ghanaian youth, describing Dr. Bawumia’s vision as a game-changer.
He also highlighted the need to recognize the value of handcraft and entrepreneurship, stating that “the typical German loves their country with their heart and mind” and that Ghana can learn from this approach.
Dr. Kokofu shared his personal experience of supporting street hawkers to go back to school during his time as MP for Bantama, because there was no free SHS policy then, and TVET wasn’t also effective.
He expressed his hope that this new initiative will provide similar opportunities for many more young people, especially women.
Dr. Kokofu emphasized that this initiative is open to all, regardless of tribe, race, or religion, and encouraged communicators of the party to educate Ghanaians about the benefits of this program, and also let them potential beneficiaries know that they are not left out. It’s in phases and will surely be their turn.
With this new training center, Ghana’s youth and vulnerable populations will have a brighter future ahead.
