Director of Electoral Service for the Electoral Commission, Dr. Serebour Quaicoe has hinted that the EC will not compromise on its request for the Ghana card to be used as sole verification document for the registration of voters ID for election 2024.
According to him, the commission has drafted its C.I. and has met the Attorney General and also the legal committee of parliament as we all the budget committee which he notes comprises of leadership of the various committee- therefore, they are only waiting for the final draft to be laid before parliament and also an invitation from Parliament.
Speaking on Movement in the morning on Wontumi Radio/Movement TV, he told Kwaku Dawuro that “we have done several consultations and we are not ready to compromise. We decided to go ahead with continuous registration so that people could go and register at their own leisure time. Therefore, we are hopeful that by the time we are done with the registration, everyone will get their Ghana card. So, to us we know we are on track”.
Adding that “you can send your regional correspondents to verify. There is registration ongoing in the various regions and why would one decide not to register and later claim that you have been disenfranchised? Moreover, we have two more years ahead”
He stressed that as at now, about 17 million people have been registered and the registration is ongoing- hence, urged all who haven’t had their yet, to kindly go to their district offices to register.
