Even In The Mess, Ghana’s Economy Is Better Than What We Inherited-Korsi Bodja

The Volta regional Organizer for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Korsi Bodja, has said that even in the current mess, Ghana’s economy is better than what the government inherited.

According to him, the government was able to reduce the country’s debt burden to about 56% and therefore, will be able to do same with the many policies and interventions.

Speaking to Kwaku Dawuro on Movement in the morning show on Wontumi Radio/Movement TV, he said that “Like the President said, we know how to bring back our economy back to life but cannot bring back the dead and what he meant was that at that material moment, whatever it takes to protect the lives of the citizenry even if it meant that our economy was to collapse, he was ready to do so- but given time he will be able to resurrect the economy and I think that the policies we have been able to implement, our engagement with the IMF to shore up the deficit in the economy are some of the things to bring back our economy to life”.

He further noted that the domestic arrangements that the government has made, and the homegrown measures will definitely take time before one could realize the effect in the economy.

“Recently, the Bank of Ghana was purchasing gold to boost the strength of the local currency and we have been able to secure some funding from Afrexim bank about $750 which will also shore up the strength of the economy and the cocoa syndicated loan is also one of the facilities we are expecting”, he added.

Stressing that “so with all these things coming on board I think it’s just a matter of time, the economy will look good, and the policies will take us back to our glory days. Even in our mess, our economy is better than what we came to pick”.
