FIFA 20 WWC: Ghana Delivers Worst Performance In Tournament’s History

Ghana’s female national Under-20 football team, the Black Princesses, crashed out of the 2022 FIFA Under 20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica and doing so, they equaled their run from the 2012 edition where they recorded no points at all.

In that competition, Ghana lost 4-0 to the United States, 1-0 to Germany and 1-0 to China and they exited without even scoring a goal.

In this year’s edition, the team crashed out of the tournament at the group stage again after failing to win any of the three games it played in the Caribbean Island nation.

Ghana lost 1-4 to Netherlands after falling 0-2 to Japan and 0-3 to the United States of America to finish bottom of Group D standings with Japan and Netherlands occupying the top two spots respectively.

The Princesses failed to score a win and registered just a goal while shipping in nine goals to end the tournament and this is Ghana’s worst run in the tournament since its debut in the 2010 edition.

Doris Boaduwaa was the only Ghanaian player to get on the score sheet in Costa Rica and her goal came as a consolation in the 4-1 loss to the Dutch.

Ghana is yet to progress beyond the group stage of the biannual tournament that had the 2020 edition postponed due to the COVID 19 Pandemic.

Below is a brief summary of Ghana’s Performance at the FIFA Under 20 Women’s World Cup:

Edition Point Tally Goal Difference

2012 0 -6
2014 6 -1
