Firefighters Attacked While Responding To Bus Fire At Akatsi; GNFS Reacts

Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) faced significant obstruction and heckling from bystanders while responding to a bus fire at Akatsi.

The fire involved the rear of a KIA bus with registration number AC 1229-24, which was en route from Aflao to Kumasi.

The emergency response team, which received the distress call, arrived at the scene within four minutes and successfully extinguished the fire in two hours.

During the operation, some bystanders interfered by heckling the firefighters, attempting to seize equipment, and filming while making unfounded accusations.

This behavior disrupted efforts to apply firefighting techniques, particularly the use of foam compound, which delayed the operation.

Despite the interference, the firefighters managed to contain the fire without any injuries or fatalities, although the rear of the bus sustained significant damage.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.

The GNFS has strongly condemned the actions of the bystanders and urged the public to refrain from obstructing emergency responders.

The Service emphasized the need for cooperation during fire incidents to ensure the safety of lives and property, warning that such interference will no longer be tolerated.

Citizens are advised to maintain a safe distance and allow firefighters to carry out their duties without disruption.
