Fresh Attack At Salaga SHS Leaves One Student Hospitalised, Others Flee

A fresh attack on students of Salaga Senior High School(SHS) in the East Gonja Municipality of the Savannah Region has left one student unconscious and hospitalised.

Several other students, mostly boys from Salaga township, have fled the school, and their whereabouts remain unknown.

Sources in the community indicate that on Thursday, 6th February, students from Salaga on campus marched to the headmaster’s office, demanding the release of three suspects arrested by the police following an earlier altercation between two student groups.

They argued that the arrests were one-sided and insisted that members of the other group involved in Saturday’s altercation should also be detained to ensure fairness.

However, the headmaster failed to grant their demand, prompting the students to begin pelting stones in protest.

The disturbance later attracted youth from Kpembe, a suburb of Salaga, who stormed the school and assaulted the students, leaving one unconscious.

Despite the new incident, the police have yet to make any arrests. However, officers have been deployed to the school to maintain order and protect lives and property.

Background

Twenty students were arrested on Tuesday, February 4, following a violent clash at the school on Saturday that left one person seriously injured. 17 of those arrested have since been granted bail and are required to report periodically to the police.

The remaining three were to be processed for court.

Police also retrieved a locally manufactured gun.

According to sources, the dispute began on February 1, 2025, between two day students during an entertainment event.

The disagreement was later reported to their respective groups in Kpembe and Salaga townships, fueling tensions that led to the violent outburst.

A seven-member committee has been set up to investigate the incident, with findings expected to include the cause of the clash and recommendations for preventing similar occurrences in the future.
