Ghana’s Presidential advisor on health Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare has revealed that by mid- 2023, Ghana will reach the final stage (level 4) to produce its own vaccine.
Speaking exclusively to Kwaku Dawuro on Movement in the morning show on Movement TV/ Wontumi Radio in Accra, he stated that the “Ghana is working hard to get to the highest stage which is the maturity level (level four) so that once the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) approves it, we can export it to other countries. The FDA is working assiduously towards that, and we are optimistic by mid of this year we will get to the maturity level because everything towards that is ready which includes our labs among others”.
In President Akufo-Addo’s 24th address to the nation on measures taken against the spread of the disease on February 28, he said the country was well on its way to producing vaccines locally.
He announced a committee to formulate a concrete plan of action towards vaccine development and manufacturing in Ghana.
Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare said that Ghana, Tanzania and Nigeria are the only countries in west Africa at the maturity level three, but Ghana raising against all odds to get to the highest and final level.
“We also have some pharmaceutical companies we are working with including Ernest Chemist, Dan Adams, Kina pharma and pharma Nova who are also helping in that regard- We have research and development analysts in our universities”, he concluded.
