A Senior Lecturer at Kumasi Technical University (KsTU), Dr. Ishaq Kyei Brobbey, has urged Ghanaians to prepare themselves for the true colors of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as they take over governance.
Dr. Brobbey expressed concerns that the current budget for April to the end of the year, which has been prepared by former President John Mahama, would reveal the NDC’s true intentions.
According to him, the NDC’s track record raises red flags. He pointed to the Komenda Sugar Factory project, which was built at a cost of $35 million but valued at $16 million when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) took over. “This is a clear case of mismanagement and lack of transparency. If they were willing to squander such a huge amount of money on a project that didn’t yield the expected results, what guarantee do Ghanaians have that they won’t repeat the same mistakes?” Dr. Brobbey stated.
The lecturer also highlighted the significant difference in budget allocation for the presidency under the NDC and NPP, with the NDC allocating GH¢11.3 billion compared to the NPP’s GH¢8.5 billion.
“This huge sum of money doesn’t indicate that this government has any intention of making life good for the citizenry,” Dr. Brobbey stated. “It seems like they’re more interested in lining their pockets than serving the people.”
Dr. Brobbey further questioned the NDC’s commitment to transparency and accountability, citing the alleged lack of transparency in the budget preparation process.
