Ghana’s Debt To Hit 104% To GDP- NPP’s Ebenezer Doku Says Government Can Account For It Borrowings

The Greater Accra regional Director of research and elections for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Ebenezer Doku  has said the NPP can account for its debt as compared to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking to Kwaku Dawuro on Movement In The Morning With Kwaku Dawuro, Mr. Doku said that ‘’very soon our debt to GDP will hit 104%, there is a reason to worry because that is not how we want it. However there was a time we got a government in power who was borrowing but there was nothing to show for. As a speak,  several children who once upon a time could not acess education due to poverty and low result can now go to school free of charge due to our borrowing, even with poor result school children can go for self placement and at the same time enjoy free education.

‘’Over 80, 000 teachers  were paid, government have paid 1 billion dollars to excess charges in 6 years. The money for the Porkuase interchange was signed by the NDC but we ensured the interchange was constructed.  The Euro jet  which was signed by President Kufuor was abandoned by the NDC when the funds were receiced while they were in power. That is the difference between the NDC and the NPP.In the mist of the difficulty, we have not gone back to the dumsor.  We have used the borrowing to keep the country going in the midst of crises. Have we forgotten we were queuing under the NDC for gas, now that is a cliché”.

He stated that, under covid-19 and the Russian-Ukraine war government is still constructing roads, paying allowances, building schools and hospitals and implementing other developmental initiatives.

Ghana’s debt to GDP was 73% under the NDC.
