The ADF is deeply concerned about TV3’s broadcast on 24th of May 2025 with respect to the government’s intention to legalize and regulate the operation of PRAGIA within the CBD of the Kumasi Metropolis.
We are broadly in support of the government’s attempt to stimulate economic growth and provide jobs for the teeming unemployed youth.nevertheless granting access for the operation of these Tricycles in the Kumasi CBD will on the contrary. stifle economic activity. These nuisance Tricycles,most of which are oblivious to traffic regulations and pedestrian needs. pose serious danger to citizens who throng the Metropolis daily to transact business.
Introduction of this PRACIA would certainly worsen the existing city centre congestion. which arguably is the most congested open market in the West African sub region.
Pursuant to this petition to the government, we would further appeal to the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC). the Regional Minister. Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to add their voices to this clarion call by ADF to spare Kumasi of this PRAGIA menace.
It is interesting to remind ourselves that this government’s intended directive is singularly and cynically aimed at Kumasi and not the nation’s capital, Accra.
KMAP.a World Bank sponsored inner city transport project brokered by His Majesty Osei Tutu II may encounter possible challenges should these Tricycles be given the green light to operate within the Metropolis.
We sincerely hope that this government would dispassionately consider our petition and pullback on granting these Tricycles the authority to operate in the Kumasi Metropolis.We finally appeal to all Kumasi residents.majority of vho transact business regularly in the CBDto support this petition for a healthy and prosperous Greater Kumasi.
