Government Will Not Introduce New Taxes In The 2024 Budget- Collins Adomako Mensah Reveals

The Member of Parliament for Afigya Kwabre North, Collins Adomako- Mensah has disclosed that there’s no indication that government will introduce any new tax in the 2024 Budget statement.

He notes that although there have been a lot of calls for the abolishment of some already existing taxes like the COVID levy. However, government will be shooting itself in the foot if it makes such an attempt.

“I don’t anticipate that government might take off some existing taxes because we need these revenues badly at this moment. There might be some reviews but not a total abolishment. We shouldn’t forget that the impact of the global pandemic is still with us here…these taxes will continue to help sustain our economy for a while…but I doubt government will introduce new tax”, he said.

He told Kwaku Dawuro on Movement In The Morning show on Movement TV/ Wontumi Radio that the finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta will be briefing Parliament on the progress of the IMF deal, especially with regards to the second tranche to be received.

“The executive board will meet in the third week of December…we have been able to meet all the criteria and what is left is the external index…my understand is that there is some fiscal progress…”, he said.

He disclosed that the second tranche of $600 million will be received by end of November.
