The Trade and Industry Minister Alan Kojo Kyeremanteng has assured producers of herbal plant medicines of the Government of Ghana’s commitment to ensure such medicines are able to meet the World Health Organization and global standards.
Delivering the keynote address at the re-launch of the COA Mixture on Wednesday 25th May 2022 at Alisa Hotel in Accra, Mr. Kyeremanteng, urged plant medicine manufacturers to ensure that the conspiracy theories surrounding the use of Traditional medicines are cleared; as he noted that this could only be achieved if the manufacturers produce medicines that meet the standard of the Food and Drug Authority.
He was however quick to add that some plant medicine manufacturers like COA manufacturing and Research Company and others are living up to expectations and it is no doubt that plant medicines should be accepted.
“With the leadership of Professor and many others, who haven’t had the exposure like Prof has had, the future of herbal medicine is bright; on behalf of the President His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo, on my own behalf and the ministry, we assure you that we are solidly behind you and will ensure COA mixture meet global standard”, he assured.
Meanwhile delivering his speech at the re-launch, the CEO of COA Manufacturing and Research Company limited entreated Researchers and Research institutions to collaborate with plant medicine manufacturers to improve the quality of herbal medicines and develop new plant based medicines for socio-economic development of Ghana.
In that regard, Professor Duncan made a personal donation of One Hundred Thousand Cedis (GHS 100,000) to the Ghana Federation of Herbal Medicine Practitioners to support members who have potential medicines but do not have sufficient funds to go through the process of evaluation and registration.
“This will reduce herbal preparations in circulation without FDA approval and also improve the image of herbal medicines in Ghana as well as improve the use of plant medicines in and outside Ghana”, he noted.
Urging all Ghanaians home and abroad to patronize the COA Mixtures for their general wellbeing, the CEO emphasized that the “COA Mixture is a well-researched plant medicine that is scientifically developed and approved by the FDA as a medicine for your general well-being”, he stressed.
Present at the event was Nana Mensah Bonsu, who represented His Royal Majesty, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II; deputy minister for Health Alhaji Mahama Asei Saini; Nii Aye Nunu II, and other stakeholders in the health sector.
