The Member of Parliament (MP) for Manso Nkwanta, Hon. George Obeng Takyi, has responded to those punching holes into the Finance Minister’s address on the Covid-19 expenditure, noting that government must be applauded for the tremendous efforts in managing the Covid-19 situation in Ghana.
According to him government have been able to do more than the resources available.
Speaking to Kwaku Dawuro on Movement In The Morning Show, the lawmaker stated that although government made available the needed resources to manage the situation, the onward disbursement to the various agencies and ministries must be blamed for any mismanagement because the funds were made accessible to them.
He stressed, ”if every Ghanaian was to be given an amount of 1cedi each that will be in excess of 30 Million and considering what the government did during the peak of the pandemic; distribution of free food, provision of free water and electricity among others speaks volume of how well the government was able to manage the pandemic with the resources available.
This comes after the Minister of Finance Ken Ofori-Atta has said government spent GH¢12.036 billion on the coronavirus pandemic for the years 2020 and 2021.
Giving the breakdown of the utilization on the floor of Parliament in Accra on Wednesday June 22, 2022, Mr. Ofori-Atta said the programmed expenditure for the years under consideration amounted to GH¢15.763 billion.
