A member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Paul Amaning has pleaded with government to speed up efforts to dualize the Accra Kumasi- Tamale and Accra-Cape-coast roads.
This comes on the back of a fatal accident at Gomoa Okyereko on the Accra-Cape coast road that claimed 16 lives, leaving 40 others injured.
He suggested that, if possible, the roads could be dualized by a private developer who will introduce tolls on the road to reclaim his investment.
“For sixteen people to lose their lives in such an accident which could have been prevented is very heart breaking. I therefore pray that moves by the President and the roads minister to expand the roads will be materialized in the shortest possible time”, he said on Movement TV.
He noted that there’s no way that Ghanaians will resist paying tolls if the roads are dualized.
“I don’t mind paying 100 cedis as toll when I’m to ply the Accra-Kumasi Road and it will take me 3 hours to reach, than to spend 6 hours on the road, which puts my life at risk”, he told Kwaku Dawuro.
He extended his condolence to the families of victims who lost their lives to the Gomoa Okyereko accident- noting that such accidents are becoming one to many and as such, expedite actions must be taken to prevent it from recurring.
