A former deputy minister of food and agriculture, George Oduro, has announced the ministry’s intentions to sell foodstuffs to consumers at a very cheap rate.
The initiative will see the ministry’s premises being converted into a makeshift market to serve the public- stressing that it’s for just consumers and not for traders as it’s in a bid to deal with soaring of food prices.
Speaking to Kwaku Dawuro on Movement in the morning show on Wontumi Radio/Movement TV, the former lawmaker said that “Food accessibility in Ghana has been less than satisfactory in recent times, the price hikes of food commodities in urban areas, especially in Accra, is creating an enormous assertion that food has become inaccessible. Therefore, coming Tuesday, November 15, the ministry will sell the food items at the forecourt of the ministry at a cheaper price for all consumers”.
He stressed that the same initiative will be replicated at many other market centers in the capital and other regions where foodstuffs are expensive in recent times.
This is a clear indication that the government’s planting for food and agriculture initiative is yielding positive strides, and hence there’s abundance of food in the country.
He urged Ghanaians traders to stop hoarding the foodstuffs with the pretense that there’s shortage, in a bid to sell them at a higher price. “That plan will no longer hold as government will be selling them at a cheaper price”, he concluded.
