GRA Is Sitting On A Time Tomb As Three Of The Commissioners Are Not In Talking Terms- Asaki Awingobit Reveals (VIDEO)

The Executive Secretary For Importers And Exporters Association, Samson Asaki Awingobit has made a shocking revelation of the contention between the three commissioners at the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

His comment comes after the Special Prosecutor’s corruption report on Labianca which stated that a member of the Council of State had used her position to get a favorable decision from the Customs Division of GRA, which led to a reduction in the tax liabilities of the said company.

‘’The Commissioner General, the Commissioner for Customs Divisions and the Commissioner for Support are not in talking terms- they are all power drunk. None of them is ready to submit under the authority of the other, and they put their interest against the interest of the institution. The three of them; Col. Kwadwo Damoah (RTD), Mr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah and Ms. Julie Essiam were all appointed by President Akufo-Addo, and they are expected to work together, but they are rather fighting each other. The Commissioner for Domestic tax was already working with GRA before the three were appointed’’, he said.

In explaining what led to the disagreement, Mr. Asaki Awingobit stated one Akunugu who now works at the office of the Special Prosecutor was contracted to train some officers at GRA after he had resigned from his role. According to him, Akurugu spoke ill about the customs commissioner to the trainers and they the trainers relayed the information to him which later escalated and led to the disagreement.
