GRIDCo Assures Public Of Stable Power Supply During WAPCo Maintenance

The Ghana Grid Company Ltd (GRIDCo) has assured the public that measures are in place to prevent power outages, commonly known as dumsor, during the rescheduled maintenance by the West Africa Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo).

The maintenance, which commenced on February 5, is expected to be completed by March 2, 2025.

In a joint statement, GRIDCo and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) confirmed that, under the leadership of the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, significant volumes of liquid fuel have been secured to power key plants in Tema as an alternative energy source.

Speaking to Accra-based Citi Business News, Nana Amoasi VII, Executive Director of the Institute of Energy Security (IES), commended the government’s proactive approach in stockpiling liquid fuel reserves to sustain electricity supply.

“The postponement of the maintenance programme gave the government ample time to build up liquid fuel reserves. If the exercise disrupts the national gas flow to power plants in the Eastern enclave, there will be sufficient liquid fuel to keep the plants operational,” he explained.

Mr Amoasi further noted that power plants such as Asogli and the entire Tema power enclave will remain unaffected, ensuring uninterrupted electricity generation.

“This will allow the government to proceed with confidence, avoid criticism, and ensure consumers enjoy a steady and reliable power supply,” he added.
