A communicator for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Agyemang, has raised concerns over the appointment of Kwabena Mintah Akandoh as the Minister of Health, citing questionable qualifications.
During an interview with Wontumi’s Morning Show, Agyemang expressed his skepticism about Akandoh’s suitability for the role, pointing to his CV, which highlights “Dining Hall Prefect” as a notable achievement. “How do you appoint a Dining Hall Prefect as Health Minister?” Agyemang questioned, expressing disappointment in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government’s decision.
Speakign with Kwaku Kyeremanteng Nkansah on Wontumi’s morning show on Wontumi TV, Agyemang also referenced a previous statement by former Health Minister Kwaku Agyemang Manu, who had raised similar concerns about ministerial appointments. According to Agyemang, the current government’s lack of effective leadership and oversight has led to questionable appointments.
Furthermore, Agyemang criticized the government’s priorities, stating, “The government has funds to pay nurses, but the Health Minister shows disrespect towards them.” This, he argued, highlights the minister’s unsuitability for the role.
“Look at the kind of unprofessionalism and character he exhibited when he visited the Tamale Teaching Hospital, leading to the sacking of the former CEO. Is this the only person within the NDC fit to become a health minister. Just look at how he’s handling the strike action by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association. He’s not qualified for the appointment”, he said.
