A communicator of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Amaning, has said if President Akufo-Addo will listen to the call of party members to reshuffle some of his ministers and appointees, he should exclude the Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta.
While speaking on the reshuffle brouhaha on Movement In The Morning Show with Kwaku Dawuro, Mr. Amaning advised the President to maintain the Finance Minister in his position because he has become the power house of all the Ministries.
He said, ‘’party members are saying some of the ministers and appointees should be reshuffled because they are not going about their duties satisfactory. For instance, people were expecting a lot from the former Gender Minister, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo so they were awaiting on the President to do what he just did. Now some are also calling for the reshuffling of the Finance Minister but I object to that. Comparing his performance pre-covid, the economy was doing very well’’.
‘’They calling for his reshuffling because government went to the International Monitory Fund (IMF) after the Ghana beyond aid agenda, but they should understand he did not take that decision by himself; it was under the direction of the President. We have 2 years to end the second term in government and if we change the Finance Minister, the new person will bring on new ideas and that is going to delay a lot of process. I believe the President should listen to the call of Party Members for reshuffle-but the for the finance minister, it is not in the right direction.’’
Mr. Amaning added the new direction from the Finance Ministry to check the spending of all the ministries will help mitigate the expenditure in the various ministries.
