Imagine The Current Economic Crisis Without Free SHS – Paul Opoku To Ghanaians

The first constituency vice chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Dome-Kwabenya, Paul Opoku has said that there’s no way the opposition NDC can reduce the inflation rate nor soaring food prices if granted the opportunity to rule.

According to him, Ghanaians should never see the NDC has an alternative and a solution to salvage the current economic crisis.

“If you think things are expensive hence, when power switches to the NDC it will reduce, then you’re deceiving yourself. If you understand the dynamics, you will appreciate the current state of things- before the global pandemic, when you brought a 40ft container into the country it was $1600, however, it’s now $6400 and that was as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Covid-19 is gone yet the price remains the same and definitely that will affect the prices of the goods you’ve imported”, he spoke to Movement in the morning show on Wontumi Radio/Movement TV.

He told Kwaku Dawuro that “because of the Russia-Ukraine war, the cost of doing business has risen. Today when you go to Europe, Berlin and the rest, they put off their streetlight even at night- but initially, they weren’t doing so. There are times, they even leave it on, during daytime but they aren’t able to do so any longer due to energy cost and you want to tell us we should bring back NDC?”

He stressed that Ghana’s streetlights are still working even in the midst of crisis, when if Europe cannot do so. Questioning why people are calling for the resignation of the President.

“You want the president to resign for who to come? John Mahama? Although we are all going through difficulties, we must believe in our leadership and once there’s light at the end of tunnel, we shall overcome it. The alternative is too scary. Nobody should think about that at all”.

Adding that “today, as we are saying times are hard, imagine Ghana without free SHS? Notwithstanding all these difficulties, your ward can still go to school. NDC haven’t been able to tell us what they are going to do to reduce inflation, all that they are doing is to criticize and speak ill of the government”.
