An aide to Sarah Adwoa Safo, Obiri Yeboah, has debunked a report by some sections of the media that parliament has declared the Dome-Kwabenya seat vacant.
He emphatically stated that “the clerk of parliament has not been authorized to declare the position of Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo vacant”.
Speaking to Kwaku Dawuro on Movement In The Morning Show he asked “have you seen any letter from the clerk of Parliament to the electoral commission to hold any bye-elections in the Dome-Kwabenya constituency? It’s only parliament that can declare the seat vacant”, he added.
He described it as painful, the kind of treatment meted out to the lawmaker following her decision to be away for a couple of times.
“This is the third time she’s in parliament and she has never been absent for so long therefore, this should tell that it’s not a deliberate attempt. She’s very reserved and a media shy person”,he said.
He further debunked claims that Lawyer Adwoa Sarfo was holding the party to ransom because she wasn’t retained as the deputy majority leader in the 8th Parliament.
“We want to assure everyone that her long absence is not deliberate. She’s not holding the party to ransom. It doesn’t even make sense at all; because she has occupied such a position before and moreover she’s now a Minister so why would she hold grudges over such a position. She loves her constituents and wouldn’t turn her back on them”, he stressed.
Adding that “she would engage them as soon as possible. I wouldn’t want to speak to the issue but before the end of today, her constituents will hear from her”.
Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament on May 4 referred Madam Sarah Adwoa Safo, Member of Parliament (MP) Dome-Kwabenya; Mr. Henry Quartey, MP Ayawaso Central and Mr. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, MP Assin Central to the Privileges Committee for absenting themselves from 15 sittings of the House without his permission.
Hon. Kennedy Agyapong and Henry have both appeared before the committee but Lawyer Adwoa Sarfo is yet to do so as all attempts to reach her have proven futile.
