John Mahama’s Gov’t Printed 900K Ghana Cards Without Security Features- Aide To Prof. Attafuah

An aide to Prof. Ken Attafuah, Dr. Hassan Adam Yarima has opened up about inheriting 900,000 Ghana cards without security features printed by the government of former President John Mahama.

Making the scathing revelation on Wontumi TV, Dr. Adam Yarima stated that the erstwhile government headed by Mr. Mahama, decided to go against a decision by ECOWAS to have a unique identification card with enhanced security features.

In 2014 when Mahama was Chairman of ECOWAS, the various heads of state met and agreed that there was a need to have a Western African card. Under the leadership of Mahama, 900,000 cards were printed without enhanced features agreed upon by the various heads of state”, he said.

His comment was made to counter a tweet from IMANI’s Bright Simsons, who tweeted that “how many are even aware that until recently the Ghana Card brand design itself was not even owned by Ghana? That it was owned by a French company & the country had to pay to get it? When Civil Society scrutinizes your govt, be grateful. There’s a war for the soul of your country.”

But according to Dr. Hassan Adam Yarima, the design is exclusive for Ghana and noted that “it is like entering into an agreement for someone who design cedi note for the country, that design is made exclusively for us.

He was therefore surprised at the statement by Mr. Bright Simon and indicated that the design used for the Ghana card could never been given to another country based on the contract signed.
