King Faisal FC Coach Prince Acheampong Confirmed Dead

Prince Acheampong, widely known as Sabuto, has sadly passed away after battling an illness.

The 52-year-old coach had been hospitalized for several days but succumbed to the undisclosed ailment on Tuesday afternoon.

Acheampong was appointed head coach of King Faisal in January 2025, replacing Barnabas Awuni, who was dismissed following the team’s inconsistent start to the Division One League season. Under his leadership, King Faisal currently sits ninth in the Zone 2 standings with 20 points after 15 matches.

His coaching career included stints with Asante Kotoko, Dunkwa United, and Fabulous Ladies FC.

Asante Kotoko paid tribute to their former assistant coach in a heartfelt statement:

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Prince Acheampong (Coach Sabuto), head coach of King Faisal and a former assistant coach of Asante Kotoko.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, loved ones, and the entire King Faisal fraternity during this difficult time. May his soul rest in perfect peace.”

Beyond club football, Acheampong made a significant impact in school sports.

He guided Opoku Ware School (OWASS) to a third-place finish in the 2024 Ashanti Regional Inter-School Boys Soccer Competition and led T.I. Ahmadiyya SHS to three Ashanti Regional Inter-School titles.

His passing is a great loss to Ghanaian football, and he will be remembered for his dedication to the sport.
