A Senior Research Fellow at the Kumasi Technical University, Dr. Smart Sarpong, has predicted a win for the incumbent Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Bosiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, in the upcoming NPP regional elections.
According to the research, Chairman Wontumi is tipped to win with at least 57.8 percent with a marginal increase of +9.
The close contender per the projection is Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as COKA, with 36.5 percent and a marginal increase of 3.6 percent.
Disclosing what necessitated him to conduct the research on MOVEMENT IN THE MORNING political show on Thursday, Dr. Sarpong cited the NPP’s wish to break the 8, of which executives to be elected will be responsible to ensure that the wish becomes a reality as one of the reasons.
“Also, the incumbent is seeking to break the 8 in a competition with four (4) strong men of almost equal stature. The Executives to be elected will have to come face to face with a likely tough team from the opposition NDC in the Ashanti region,” he said.
Dr. Sarpong stated that some 540 delegates representing 62.4per cent of the about 890 delegates expected to cast their ballot were respondents.
The opinion polls were conducted in a five-month period from Tuesday, 11th January 2022 to Friday, 20th May 2022.
“All aspirants had good messages, but many delegates believe that Chairman Wontumi has the agility and resilience to overcome the machinations of the main opposition in Ashanti,” he disclosed.
He further said, “the study affords all aspirants the opportunity to marshal out strategies to overturn or consolidate their fortunes as presented.”
The research also predicted a win in the Ashanti Region for the CEO of the Youth Employment Agency, Justin Koduah Frimpong, who is seeking to unseat John Boadu for the General Secretary slot with a 53.8 percent.
