The Ashanti regional elections officer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Kofi Owusu, has urged aspirants vying to represent the NPP in the upcoming by-elections in Kumawu constituency to stay away from raining insults and attacking each other.
Urging electorates of Kumawu constituency to continue having faith in the NPP government like it has always done, he also told the parliamentary aspirants who have been cleared to contest to ensure that they stay away from politics of insults and attacking each other in the run-up to the by-elections.
Speaking on Movement in the morning show on Movement TV, Mr. Owusu said that all eight aspirants who picked forms to contest in the bye-elections have successfully been vetted. However, due to some reasons, two of the aspirants’ clearance are on hold because they are to tender some documents.
When asked if it was an issue of dual citizenship, he told Kwaku Dawuro that “those of us in the room where the vetting was held were the elections committee and constituency executives and none of us have said anything about dual citizenship. The elections committee will by close of Wednesday receive those documents and determine the way forward. So, let’s all wait patiently till Wednesday, to know what the outcome will be”.
He added that everything in intact and therefore the elections will surely come off on Sunday as earlier announced.
He couldn’t disclose the venue for the elections, as he said that the venue will be disclosed by close of day tomorrow.
“We are pleading with electorates of Kumawu to continue throwing their weight behind the party like they have always done over the years…they should continue to have faith in the party so that they continue to enjoy and benefit from the numerous infrastructural development”, he stressed.
