The Ashanti regional chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako has debunked allegations of having a preferred choice among the aspirants contesting for the parliamentary candidature of Kumawu in the run-up to the by-election.
Speaking on behalf of Chairman Wontumi, Oheneba Asiedu noted that the regional chairman throws his weight behind all those vying for the position and will support whoever becomes the candidate to win the elections.
“Let me put this on record, Chairman Wontumi, as the Ashanti regional chairman, the six persons out of which one has withdrawn from the contest, there’s nobody among the five left that he supports. He has no candidate among them”, he spoke during the newspaper review on Movement in the morning show on Movement TV/ Wontumi Radio.
He said the Ashanti governor has given the electorate the opportunity to select the candidate of their choice- for they know what is best for them.
He cautioned the aspirants to desist from using Chairman Wontumi’s name for campaign.
“So, to the aspirants and regional executives who are going round saying they are the preferred candidate of chairman wontumi in order to garner votes from delegates, should desist from doing so. It’s never true- he hasn’t declared his support for anyone”, he added.
