The Ashanti Regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi has rubbished claims by Mr. Mahama that his government fixed ‘dumsor’ before exiting office in 2016.
According to Chairman Wontumi, former President John Mahama appears to be making mockery of himself by claiming he solved ‘dumsor’.
The NPP Chairman in an interview with Wontumionline.com, provided timeline to prove his case noting that in August, 2017, the ‘dumsor’ crisis still persisted and had to be solved by the Akufo-Addo led government.
Speaking at an event organised by the opposition National Democratic Congress dubbed ‘Ghana at a crossroads’, Mr. Mahama claimed that he accepted the responsibility for the energy crisis and fixed it.
“It is inconceivable that any leader in these times of crisis and hardships would seek to shirk responsibility, absolve himself of blame, and fail woefully to show leadership. It is the duty of leaders to acknowledge problems, take responsibility and move swiftly to address them as I did when confronted with the power challenges in my time.”
“I could have conveniently blamed the age-old underinvestment in the energy sector, but I was acutely aware that Ghanaians did not elect me to complain and blame other for problems, so I moved to fix it. And I fixed it”, he claimed.
But Chairman Wontumi rebutted the claim and described it as false.
“He (John Mahama) couldn’t solve the problem. Lights were always off at hospitals and school. You (Mahama) are a liar, you never solved dumsor. In 2017 August when the NPP took over from Mahama, ‘dumsor’ was still in existence…He couldn’t solve the issue but rather increased tariffs on water and electricity to 15%”, Chairman Wontumi said.
