A former deputy General Secretary for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, is calling on government to replace the Ghana Cedi with West African CFA franc.
On the State of Ghana show which airs on Wontumi TV every Saturday, Nana Obiri Boahen noted that if countries such as Germany and Italy were able to dump their respective currencies to spend the Euros, it would be wiser for Ghana to replicate the move and go in for the CFA.
He however stated that the decision wouldn’t be an easy one to come by considering the egos of African politicians.
“The bane of Africa is that a good number of African politicians are not ready to swallow their pride”, he said as he underscored that there would be massive challenge dumping the Cedi for CFA.
He pointed that considering the geographical location of Ghana, it would be better for the country to join Burkina Faso, Togo and Cote d’Ivoire in spending the CFA.
