The Minority Caucus in Parliament has extended support to victims of the recent fire outbreak at the Adum Blue Light Market in Kumasi with a donation of GH¢200,000.
A delegation led by the Minority Leader and Effutu MP, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, presented the amount during a brief ceremony in Kumasi on Monday, April 14, 2025.
Addressing the traders, Afenyo-Markin expressed the caucus’ deepest sympathies to those affected, acknowledging the emotional and financial hardship the disaster has caused.
He also urged the government to urgently release emergency funds from the national contingency reserve to further support the victims.
“The government must show the same level of urgency and compassion as it has in other similar tragedies,” he stated.
The devastating fire, which swept through several shops and commercial spaces, left thousands of traders counting their losses, with goods worth millions of cedis destroyed.
Chairman of the traders, Joseph Bobie Ansah, who received the donation on behalf of the victims, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Minority Caucus.
“We are deeply grateful for this support. It will go a long way to ease the burden on our members who have lost everything,” he said.
