A group of Minority Members of Parliament (MPs) have staged a sit-down protest at the entrance of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) in Accra to show solidarity with Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, who is currently being held at the facility.
The MPs, clad in their parliamentary attire, sat on the floor, refusing to budge until their demands are met. They are calling for Chairman Wontumi’s immediate release, citing what they describe as persecution and political victimization.
The MPs’ decision to sit on the floor at the EOCO entrance is a show of defiance and solidarity with their embattled chairman. They argue that Wontumi’s arrest and detention are politically motivated and an attempt to intimidate and silence him.
The protesting MPs have vowed to remain at the EOCO premises until Chairman Wontumi is granted bail and released. The standoff continues, with the MPs showing no signs of backing down.
