National Service Personnel To Begin Basic Military Training From August 3

Basic military training will be introduced for all national service personnel beginning August 3 2025, the National Service Authority (NSA) has said.

The announcement follows a meeting held on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, between the leadership of the NSA and the Military High Command at the Ministry of Defence in Accra.

The engagement centred on the rollout of the National Service Emergency Response Readiness Programme (NSERRP), a new training arrangement designed to expose service personnel to basic military drills and orientation.

The planned exercise reflects President John Dramani Mahama’s statement during his maiden State of the Nation Address to Parliament on February 27 2025, in which he proposed short-term military training for graduates to promote discipline, patriotism and physical readiness.

Speaking during the meeting, the Director-General of the NSA, Mr Felix Gyamfi, said the programme would involve up to two months of composite drills for service personnel as part of their national service experience.

“This military training is a step in the right direction and must be embraced by all and sundry as one of the indicators for resetting the country, particularly the youth,” Mr Gyamfi said.

Brigadier General Amoah-Boakye, who represented the Military High Command at the meeting, assured the NSA of the Armed Forces’ preparedness to provide the necessary support when the programme takes effect.

While details of the implementation plan are still being finalised, the NSA has indicated that it is working with the relevant agencies to put all logistical arrangements in place before the August start date.
