Government Spokesperson on Social Services, Alhaji Yusif Fafona has noted that The National Democratic Congress (NDC) are the cause of the current rental challenges faced by the country.
Speaking on Movement in the morning show on Movement TV and Wontumi Radio, Alhaji Yusif Fafona noted that it was during the late president J. J Rawlings’ revolution era that renting became difficult in the country because he amended the renting laws.
“He even ordered tenants to beat their landlords and report them to the rent control. It was during that time the Landlords Association was formed and it brought challenges to the country till date. Meanwhile, the NPP Government has created the rental assistance scheme to assist and pay rent to Ghanaians who earns from 500 cedis up to 1500cedis. These are the kind of initiatives we are talking about”, he told Kwaku Dawuro.
He added that the government is not being selective on which people qualify for the rental scheme.
“Whether you are an NDC, NPP member, a government worker or not, once you’re a Ghanaian with an income, you’re qualified. About One Hundred and Fifty people have already registered and this shows that a lot of people are suffering in the country. “, he said.
