A deputy General Secretary for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, has taken a direct swipe at the national executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) by blaming them for the woes being faced by their beleaguered Member of Parliament for Assin North, Gyekye Quayson.
In an interview on Wontumi TV, Nana Obiri Boahen stated that there is higher possibility that a by-election would be held at Assin North following a ruling by the Cape Coast High Court which quashed the 2020 parliamentary election results.
The court has called for fresh elections and restrained Gyekye Quayson from holding himself up as representing the people of that constituency.
And Nana Obiri Boahen explains that even before Mr. Quayson contested as Parliamentary candidate for the NDC, some members of the party protested in the community and drew the attention of their leaders that he was fit to lead them.
“It was even brought to the attention of the national executives. They saw him as ‘borga’ with money so they didn’t care”, the NPP deputy scribe stated.
A Cape Coast Appeal Court has struck out an appeal application filed by Mr James Gyekye Quayson, the embattled Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin North Constituency for non-compliance of the court’s proceedings.
The court has also dismissed three applications filed by the MP because they had no legal basis since the substantive appeal has been thrown out.
Presiding judge, Justice Irene Charity Larbi together with two other Justices on the panel, said the MP had failed woefully to comply with the court’s orders, directives and proceedings five months after filing his appeal application.
