For having the fortitude to reshuffle Hon. Haruna Iddrisu as the Minority leader for the National Democratic Congress, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia must accept that he has just started an “Islamic fight”, an Islamic leader has said.
The Ashanti Regional Chairman of Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), Kofi Owusu Omar, has defended Hon. Haruna Iddrisu and insisted that the dislike the NDC has for Muslims is the reason their national Chairman and General Secretary issued a statement to dismiss their minority leader.
Kofi Owusu Omar stated on Wontumi TV that the decision to remove Haruna Iddrisu from post is equal to picking up a fight with Islam.
He also rubbished assertions by Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia and Mr. Fifi Fiaivi Kwetey that they took the decision to remove Hon. Haruna Iddrisu and replace him with Dr. Ato Forson as minority leader because they know the 2024 election was going to be based on energy and finance issues and needed someone with knowledge on the subject.
“Mahama lost power because of electricity so why is he (Asiedu Nketia) saying that the changes they made were because election 2024 would be based on energy and financial issues? They don’t like Muslims, they have sidelined the Muslims in the party”, he said.
On Tuesday, January 24, 2023, the leadership of the NDC in Parliament was changed. Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson takes over from Haruna Iddrisu as the new Minority Leader.
Ellembelle MP, Kofi Armah Buah will replace James Klutse Avedzi as Deputy Minority Leader. Kwame Agbodza is now the Chief Whip for the opposition side and will be deputized by Banda MP, Ahmed Ibrahim and Ada legislator, Comfort Doyo Ghansah respectively.
