NDC Runs To The Supreme Court With Baseless Appeals- Lawyer Agbotey

Private legal practitioner, Lawyer John Agbotey, has said that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are fond of running  to the Supreme Court with baseless appeals.

Speaking on Movement In the Morning Political Show, he said, “NDC affirms to E-levy helping Ghana off camera, they know very well that the levy will boast the country’s GDP but they will never admit”

He added that, “most of the appeal that are sent to the supreme court are cases with baseless appeals but they do that intentionally even when they are aware they will not win but they do that intentionally to  make the court unpopular when they loose”.

He indicated that NDC members are only concerned about the party and not about Ghanaians. He advised them to go back and check the validity of the e-levy law.

The minority members of parliament led by the minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu, Mahama Ayariga, and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa filed a suit at the supreme court against the implementation of the electronic levy (e-levy), alleging that the decision was taken without the requisite quorum in article 104, clause 1 of the 1992 constitution, after minority members walked out of parliament before the bill was considered.

The electronic tax law is set to be implemented on the 1st of May, 2022; however the court hearing on the filed suit by minority members of parliament is set for 4th May, 2022.
