Spanish prodigy Nico Williams, who has Ghanaian descent, delivered a stellar performance for the Spanish national team during the Euro 2024 final, helping him equal a record.
By clinching the European Championship (Euro)
trophy with Spain, Williams became the second player with Ghanaian roots to win the competition, matching the record of former French footballer Marcel Desailly, who also has roots in Ghana.
Desailly won the trophy with France in 2000, putting up an excellent performance that made history.

On Sunday night, Nico Williams was named Man of the Match after playing a key role in Spain’s 2-1 victory over England in the 2024 European Championship.
The Spanish forward of Ghanaian descent started the final for his country and played the entire duration of the contest.
Playing on the flanks, Nico Williams threatened the English defense, causing trouble from the start.
The talented Athletic Club forward scored the opening goal in the 47th minute, assisted by Yamal Lamine.
After Cole Palmer’s equalizer, Mikel Oyarzabal scored the winning goal for Spain in the 86th minute, assisted by Marc Cucurella.
The 2-1 win over England crowned Spain the champions of the 2024 European Championship for the fourth time.
