No Government Can Run The Country Without Borrowing – 1st Deputy Speaker

The Member of Parliament for Bekwai who doubles as the 1st. Deputy Speaker of Parliament Joseph Osei Wusu, has stated that successive governments of Ghana resorted to borrowing to run the affairs of the country since taxes collected and money realize from our resources is woefully inadequate.

In an exclusive interview with Kwaku Dawuro on Movement in the morning show on Wontumi Radio and Movement TV, Hon. Osei Wusu stated that 50% of all infrastructural development in Ghana was financed through loans.

“On the current economic crisis, the country is going through, the Nana Akufo – Addo government has not been reckless as being trumpeted by critics, especially the NDC, but the major factor is the COVID – 19 pandemic and the banking sector clean– up”.

Speaking on how the country can come out of the economic woes, the First Deputy Speaker said “the time has come for Ghanaians to accept to pay tax to run the country. The Western countries that support us financially were able to raise enough funds through taxation”.

He has therefore called on the Finance Ministry to intensify orientation about tax obligations for the people to realize that it is their responsibility to pay tax to develop the country.
