“For the New Patriotic Party to break the 8-year jinx, a lot depends on the activities and support of the external branches”
The above were the initial remarks of Frederick Kofi Ameyaw, the Director of the party’s external affairs at the Germany Branch’s fundraising and unity dinner.
He continued; “The party has benefited immensely from the contributions of the external branches in Europe, North America and Asia. Germany has been one of the major contributors to the successes of the party over the years. Going forward into the next elections, the party cannot do without these branches”
Admitting that though not all their expectations have been met, the party leadership will continue to play key roles in ensuring that their concerns are addressed.
“Both the party and government recognize your contributions to the party’s victories chalked in the two previous elections, but for this to continue, we have to remain in power”.
He pointed out to them that ‘party can do all it can to win power but without the support and active involvements of the branches, this would be a pipe dream’ he stated.
He urged the German branch as well as all other branches not to relent in their efforts to see the party continue to be in power than to be in opposition.
Reminding them of what former President John Agyekum Kufuor said about how important for one’s party to in power and be an ordinary member than to be the General Secretary of a party that finds itself in opposition.
The event was to unify all the factions within the German Branch and to raise funds for the party’s activities, items Kofi Ameyaw termed as ‘preludes to breaking the 8’.
