Former Member of Parliament for Ablekuma Central Constituency, Ebenezer Gilbert Nii Nartey has suggested to the rank and file of the NPP, to focus much more on the parliamentary seats in the upcoming 2024.
He asserted that in most cases, the parliamentary elections are left only for the parliamentary candidates to contest with little support, and this resulted in the loss of many seats of the NPP in the 2020 elections.
The former lawmaker cited former deputy Aviation, Yaw Afful as an example, noting that he lost his seat, but President Akufo-Addo won with almost 20,000 seats. This tells that he contested the elections all alone.
“There’s the need to derive a strategy on how to run the 2024 elections, for both Presidential and Parliamentary because the focus in the constituency is centered much more on the MP”, he said on Movement in the morning show on Movement TV/ Wontumi Radio.
“This is what has resulted to what we are facing in Parliament now as a party. Because we no longer have the numbers. What has been happening in Parliament with regards to Adwoa Sarfo should serve as a lesson to us all. Because, if we had the numbers as the majority group, the attitude towards us by the minority wouldn’t be happening”, he told Kwaku Dawuro.
He further expressed shock over the stance of the minority on the passage of the revenue bills which will inure to the benefit of the country.
“They are doing this due to the directive from their party. But they ought to think about Ghana first”, he stressed.
