NPP was Optimistic About Maintaining 12 out Of The 14 seats We Had In G/A- Reg. Dir. Of Elections

Former MCE of the Adenta Municipal Assembly, Ebenezer Doku, has highlighted the challenges faced by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the lead-up to the 2024 general elections.

He explained that while they initially believed they could hold on to the 14 seats they had in Greater Accra, there were uncertainties, particularly with two constituencies—Amasaman and Bortianor, which were proving difficult to secure. Despite these challenges, he noted that the party was optimistic about maintaining 12 out of the 14 seats they held over the last eight years, with Yahaya Kassim Atta doing his best to represent the party.

Doku highlighted that while Amasaman faced some setbacks, the party managed to resolve the issues and were encouraged by the candidacy of Yahaya Kassim Atta, a young and dedicated construction entrepreneur. Atta worked tirelessly in the constituency with his own resources, which eventually helped the party secure Amasaman, but Bortianor and Amasaman did not go as well as hoped.

According to Doku, the NPP was also confident about retaining Ablekuma Central, OkaiKoi North, and Korle Klottey (Nii Noi Nortey), as their research indicated favorable outcomes in these areas. However, the election results in Korle Klottey were disappointing, with the party falling short of expectations despite initially anticipating 18 or 19 seats.

On December 7, during the election, Doku visited Madina, a stronghold for the party, at around 11 AM. He observed a low voter turnout, with only 180 out of 500 registered voters casting their ballots. This prompted him to report the situation to both the Regional and National platforms, recognizing that there were clear issues with the election’s progress.
