A member of the Teachers and Educational Workers Union of Ghana (TEWU) and lecturer at Kumasi Technical University, Ishaq Kyei Brobbey, has expressed disappointment with Organised Labour’s decision to go on strike.

He believes their actions were disrespectful, especially since President Akufo-Addo had advised against the strike.

In an interview on Movement TV/Wontumi Radio’s morning show with Gordon Asare Bediako, Brobbey emphasized that strike actions should be a last resort, considering their disruptive and costly nature.

He noted that before taking such action, Organised Labour should have exhausted all avenues, including consulting with various stakeholders.

Brobbey pointed out that even his own chapter hadn’t met to discuss concerns, yet Organised Labour unilaterally decided to strike. He suspects some external influences may have driven their decision.

“It’s out of respect that they took the law into their hands,” Brobbey stated, highlighting the need for collective approval before taking strike action.

He stressed that strikes can have far-reaching consequences, affecting the nation and creating problems. Brobbey urged Organised Labour to reconsider their approach, prioritizing dialogue and cooperation.
