The Member of Parliament for Effutu and Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has expressed deep concern over the GH₵50 million bail condition imposed on Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
Speaking after visiting the NIB office with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Afenyo-Markin questioned the rationale behind such an exorbitant demand, stating that it casts a bad light on Ghana’s justice system.
“I find it very worrying that in a country like Ghana, someone would demand GH₵50 million worth of properties before someone is granted inquiry bail. The NDC should take note of these developments, because posterity is watching and is the ultimate judge,”Afenyo-Markin said.
Afenyo-Markin also expressed frustration over the NIB’s refusal to grant access to Chairman Wontumi without authorization from EOCO, describing it as a mere excuse to punish him. “Until EOCO authorizes, we cannot see him. But we all know that these are lies; they just want to punish him,” he added.
