The Chief Executive of the Ghana Library Authority, Siaw Hayford has said that the Akufo-Addo led administration has revamped the public libraries the NDC collapsed.
According to him, during the erstwhile NDC’s administration, library was never factored or considered during educational structure reforms- yet they kept talking about improving quality education.
“When others were given the opportunity, they messed up our educational sector. Can you imagine that we were never talking about library in our educational structure? How do you want to promote access to education, ensure quality education and yet you develop education structure without considering libraries. How then were they expecting people to learn”, he asked Kwaku Dawuro on Movement in the morning show on Movement TV/ Wontumi Radio.
Stressing that they cancelled teacher trainee allowances and equally cancelled libraries which would have promote self-learning- adding that had it not been for the intervention of President Nana Addo, public libraries would have also collapsed.
He added that even in 2007, former President Kufuor lobbied for ten (10) mobile library vans from UNESCO, but after leaving power, all those vans were destroyed. It took President Akufo-Addo to restore the vans.
Ghana is currently the second country in Africa to create a public library app, after South Africa and all these are happening under President Akufo-Addo’s administration.
