Government’s spokesperson on social services, Alhaji Yusif Fofana, has said that there’s no government since the colonial days, that has employed more public sector workers than the Akufo-Addo led administration.
“The Akufo-Addo led administration has employed more public sector workers than any other government including nurses, doctors, forestry workers among others in the history of Ghana”, he told Kwaku Dawuro on Movement in the morning show on Wontumi Radio/Movement TV.
According to him, there’s no president in Africa who has been able to execute many projects and sustained its interventions like President Akufo-Addo is doing amidst the global crisis. “Many of the leaders don’t know what exact project they should spend their resources on, because we are not in normal times. However, the narrative is different with President Akufo-Addo”. He is still commissioning interchanges like the Tamale interchange”.
“Why are they not asking why people are not queuing for fuel like it’s happening in some countries? Under this global crisis, there’s no shortage of fuel here in the country. This speaks volume of the kind of leader we have as a President”, he said.
He went further to say that so far, there have been no outstanding arrears in the paying of salaries of government workers regardless of the economic situation, as all the social interventions which were implemented prior to the crisis, are still running effectively.
“Nursing allowances, teacher’s allowance, books and research allowances for lecturers at the university which were canceled by Mahama have been paid since it’s restoration in 2017 by this government. Had it been for some others, they would have thrown their hands in despair that they cannot salvage the situation. In 2014, they told us they weren’t magicians to provide jobs for the teeming youth”, he added.
