The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Public Sector Reforms, Kusi Boafo, has said reintroducing the property rate collection will help the various districts internally generates it funds.
He said said after the President addressed the nation on Sunday 30th October, 2022 on measures designed to resurrect the country’s economy.
Speaking on Movement In The Morning Show with Kwaku Dawuro, Kusi Boafo said that ”we need to go back to the days of collecting property rate. And this does not apply to structures that have been put up already- when someone buys a land and he or she is yet to put a structure on it they must pay property rate. There are several houses that have been rented out but owners are not paying yet they are still calling on government to come to their rescue”.
”District Assemblies can focus on internally generating funds from property rate and shift focus from the District Assembly Common Fund. If they are able to do this well and make it a stable internal revenue source, it will boost progress in the various district, as it holds great potential of reducing dependency”, he stated.
He added that several people in the informal sectors do not pay taxes and the there’s a lot of pressure on the little taxes that are collected.
